Have you got influence? ھازا واستا

هل لديكم أي تأثير

That translates to have you got any influence. This seems to trickle down every job seekers mind. Damn the HR people who have their own wise ways of hiring staff but it is a known fact that influence better known as 'Waasta' really works in the UAE.

Ask the next person you meet if he believes in what I just said. Without doubt I can say he will agree. It is really irritating if some influential person has sent down one of his aides for an interview with you. For namesake you get in the boss's cabin, have a chat, smile and leave.

One more thing not to forget, the one liner that I am tired of hearing, the interviewer will never forget to say that he would get back to you soon and let you know about the all together fake interview. Experienced job seekers know how the reality of this statement

Once in a job, you will realize there are deserving people working under not so deserving people. Climbing the corporate ladder on Waasta is easier and faster. All together why so much fuss ? You must be thinking it is their luck which leads them to where they are but hold on.

Put yourself in a place where you have an undeserving boss who is clueless about himself, forget the work he does. Dont you think he will be an acid rather than a dissolvent to your work.
Where is the morality lost?

Come on people, give the deserving a break and see the difference for yourselves else find me someone influential enough to land a job. LOL !!!

I am always open for comments so punch your way through this issue of 'WAASTA'.

PS: What influenced me to write this post, Farhan Akhtar's singing in Rock On. From direction, to acting and now even singing. How easily can someone get what he wants?

Undeserving people making the much more deserving ones run after is a very common phenomena.........not only at workplaces...........even in schools, colleges, etc............there is always someone......whether a boss, manager, supervisor, lecturer, HOD, etc.......who r simply inefficient, incapable, incompetent, unsystematic and frivolous at their work and are unjustifiably ruling the roost ......and those who are worthy, are grinding their guts out......which is unfair......!!

There r many famous lines which these undeserving bunch of jokers bring into use apart from the one u said……some of them are –

- we will talk about it later………….(and that later never comes)
- its absolutely fine………(when nothing is fine)
- i want to instill academic discipline / work discipline in this department………..(when the person himself is not disciplined enough to keep his whims under control)

But one of the reason of this unfair disparity is We - ourselves……coz we have elected corrupt and inefficient governments, hired incompetent employees, and encouraged exclusivity…..its about time we bring about a change in ourselves, by bringing a change in our attitudes while dealing with such people….

When there can be a RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT passed in the parliament, cant there be something of that sort to restrain the injustice done to the deserving lot to create a work environment which is just and fair to all?

Growth can be achieved only when there is accountability and reliability amongst the ones who build an organization by their hard work and sheer perseverance. But if the ones holding top positions are undeserving, then the credibility of the organizations go down leading to the downfall of the enterprise….the talented lot should get the recognition they deserve and those who do not deserve should be excluded…….

Thanks for the comment buddy... i guess the corporate structure of any company may not be perfect but there is hardly anything being done to suffice the issue and help improve the existing state of affairs.

Rather than doing damage control, there is a state of damage induction. There seems to be no mechanism to subside the influence of the top brass.

U pointed the very existence of faculty in college.

Accountalbility and reliability come are a part of the deserving people .... You can only expect some tom, dick n harry to come in the office and pop peanuts in proseprity.

Lets c what the other say ....

Thx for da comment once again

So true...i think waasta is fine only when you are a beginner at a small level. Then it should depend on the capability of the person.
To add to this Muaz I would like to share some more info with you.

These days there is a new thought that has I can say almost flooded the market."you are over qualified, hence we can't appoint you."

One thing that I cannot understand is how can one be 'over qualified' for a post. As long as an engineer applies for a post of an engineer and not that of an office clerk.
