Technology addiction

Drugs, Alcohol, Cocaine and computers all have one thing in common. They cause addiction ......

People who know me well enough know what is my bond with computers. They call me by names describing my association with the PC. I am not complaining with being associated alongside a machine that has guided great developments from the landing on moon in 1969 to the Airbus A380 take off this year.

My earliest memory is associated with computers and dos games. I used to love playing the LOT car racing game and the 1992 Brian Lara Cricket. Nostalgia, hmm those were the days ....

I never realized when it became an addiction and took control of me. I will just present excerpts of an article from BBC highlighting the effects of this kind of addiction:

Nada Kakabadse, a Professor at the Northampton Business School, said: "Your judgement is impaired. Equally your decision making processes are impaired. It's like losing your spatial judgement, so instead of walking through the door you walk into it. You're more prone to have a car accident if you drive."

I dont deny the fact. From the moment I wake up in the morning to the time I sleep I bang the keys of this keyboard in front of me.

Do a search on google and you will come up with thousands of pages on net addiction.

These days I play PES 2008 all day long and I feel the effects at night. You just cant get out of that virtual world. My mind just refuses to stop thinking about the game. All this leads to one thing, NO SLEEP !!! Yes, believe me it must have happened to you where you just cant sleep.
I think we are fortunate to live in the age of technology. Close your eyes and think what would have been different if technology was never the way it is today.

I just want you people to suggest me with new ways to fight this addiction ..... Come on dont tell me to read books, i do that on my computer ...

There must be something to fight this habit. Be innovative and come up with unique suggestions in the comments....

Hey muaz.....nowadays, what has been quite pertinent is TECHNOLOGY BASHING, for whatever sense (environment, addictions n wht not)...........but if u ask me........i think you shouldn’t look for solutions.....coz there are solutions for problems, not skills or abilities.

The thing is that, what u r thinking of as an addiction can very easily be your strength. Just think of it………if Bill gates was not addicted to computers, there would be no Microsoft today…….if Sachin was not addicted to cricket, whom would we be worshipping in India?.....

Just come to think of it – after all, all the animation and graphic experts might have been computer freaks, that is why we are seeing these mind-blowing special effects in movies n stuff.

And man……….if you were not addicted to PC’s……how would I be able to remove viruses from my laptop and download cool softwares from the net………lolzzz

Thanks for those consoling words. It is a point well said where I should see it as a skill rather than an addiction. Will keep it in my mind bro ....
